Protection of our shared coasts and oceans takes center stage next month with World Oceans Day on June 8th and the gathering of delegates from around the world at the United Nations Headquarters for the UN Ocean Conference from June 5-9.

In celebration of these events, Partnerships in Environmental Management for the Seas of East Asia (PEMSEA) invites amateur photographers and photography enthusiasts to capture their views and vision of our shared ocean home in East Asia. Leading up to World Oceans Day, ‘Ten Photos to Shake the World (TPSW)’, an annual competition organized and originated by Asia Society for Social Improvement and Sustainable Transformation (ASSIST), will feature the theme ‘Our Oceans, Our Home’. The contest aims to raise awareness about protecting and sustaining healthy and resilient coasts and oceans and the communities that rely on them across East Asia.

Photographs of the coasts and oceans of East Asia – including Brunei, Cambodia, PR China, Indonesia, Japan, DPR Korea, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Philippines, Republic of Korea, Singapore, Timor Leste, Thailand or Vietnam – must depict the beauty and significance of our ocean home, and efforts to protect it.

Ten finalists will be chosen and featured on TPSW’s Facebook page and PEMSEA’s website and Facebook page. The three top winners will be awarded cash prizes.

Deadline for submission of entries is on June 25, 2017 at 12:00PM HKT/SGT/PHT. Click here for more details about the contest.
