This PEMSEA briefing note, presented during the East Asian Seas (EAS) Congress 2012, provides answers to important questions about PEMSEA's transformation, integrated coastal management, the SDS-SEA, and the support of PEMSEA's country and non-country partners.

It is a platform for strengthening the technical skills and management know-how of local governments particularly in addressing emerging issues confronting majority of the coastal cities, municipalities and provinces with regards to sustainable growth and development.

This brochure summarizes the achievements of PEMSEA country and non-country partners from 2008-2010. These include PEMSEA's transformation into an international legal entity, the third Ministerial Forum, the EAS Congress 2009, the 2nd EAS Youth Forum, the development of national policies, legislation and plans to strengthen coastal ocean management and development, ICM scaling up activities, capacity-building activities, the application of the SOC reporting system in ICM sites, new partners, and the recognition accorded to PEMSEA for its various initiatives.
