2nd Annual Meeting of the Yellow Sea MPA Network and Training Workshop

Dalian, PR China — The Second Annual Meeting of the Yellow Sea MPA Network and Training Workshop on Benthos Survey for Ecosystem-based Management of Coastal Wetlands in the Yellow Sea were held in Dalian and Dandong in China, 5-9 September 2010.

 

The UNDP/GEF Yellow Sea Project, the Korea Maritime Institute (KMI), and the Liaoning Ocean and Fisheries Science Research Institute (LOFSRI) had organized the activities to further develop the network of MPA managers, local governmental officers, NGO staff members and associate scientists. Participants exchanged information and experiences in managing costal habitats in the Yellow Sea; they discussed expectations and activities for future MPA network categorized by five aspects: scientific & technical aspect, policy aspect, public awareness aspect, social economic aspect, and service aspect. The workshop provided them with field exercises to obtain an in-depth understanding of coastal wetland ecosystems and their ecological linkages.
