PEMSEA Welcomes Intern from PR China

Quezon City, Philippines — The PEMSEA Resource Facility welcomes Ms. Ma Mu to the Philippines as part of PEMSEA's Professional Upgrading Program for 2011.
Ms. Ma Mu works as a project assistant at the State Oceanic Administration in Beijing, China, where she helps organize meetings and training activities and liaises with local governments and site implementing units, among other tasks.
She received her Master's degree in Zoology, which focused on the conservation of marine mammals, and Bachelor's degree in Biology from Shandong University. Some of her published works include "Identification of Bolaenoptera omurai (Omura's whale) from an Unknown Whale vertebra based on Cyt b Gene Sequence" and "Preliminary Study of Enteromorpha prolifera Drift Gathering Causing the Green Tide Phenomenon".
Ms. Ma Mu will be working alongside the PEMSEA Resource Facility (PRF) staff and partners from April to October 2011 on programs mainly relating to the application of the ICM Code and drafting proposals for strengthening ICM programs in two parallel sites in China. In addition she will gain experience in the development of the 5-year implementation plan for the Sustainable Development Strategy for the Seas of East Asia (SDS-SEA), and the organization and conduct of regional intergovernmental and multi-sectoral workshops.
PEMSEA’s internship program is designed to provide young professionals from the region with an opportunity to work in an international organization in order to strengthen technical, administrative and management skills, and enhance communication and working relationships between the PRF and PEMSEA’s Country and Non-Country Partners.
