Quezon City, Philippines — As a testament of its commitment to pursuing excellence and providing quality services, PEMSEA received its ISO 9001:2008 certification last October, adding confidence and credibility to the organization as it continues to champion sustainable development of the seas of East Asia.
In an external audit conducted by TÜV Rheinland last June at the PEMSEA Resource Facility (PRF), the auditors verified the compliance of the PRF Quality Management System and conformance of the PRF workflow to standard requirements and effectiveness.
The favorable audit results led to a recommendation for the ISO 9001:2008 certification covering the PRF's provision of management and coordination, secretariat and technical services to PEMSEA partners. These services include capacity development, knowledge management, collaborative planning, project implementation and communications.
The ISO 9001:2008 certification comes at a crucial time for PEMSEA as it enters a new program phase as a self-sustaining international organization with a mandate to forge stronger partnerships and goodwill among East Asian Seas stakeholders, and to pursue scaling up initiatives in integrated coastal management (ICM) and the Sustainable Development Strategy for the Seas of East Asia (SDS-SEA).
