PEMSEA extends Executive Director’s term
Wednesday, 29 July 2020
MANILA, PHILIPPINES-- Partnerships in Environmental Management for the Seas of East Asia (PEMSEA) has extended the term of Ms. Aimee T. Gonzales as Executive Director of the PEMSEA Resource Facility (PRF) for another three years from 2021-2023. Ms. Gonzales was appointed Executive Director of the PRF last January 1, 2018.
The term extension follows the decision of the 12th East Asian Seas (EAS) Partnership Council Meeting held in July. The PRF Executive Director normally holds a fixed term contract of three years, but can be renewed not exceeding 10 years.
“I thank the Partnership for their trust and support in my ability to serve and lead this unique regional coordinating mechanism especially during this challenging period. COVID-19 has exposed the intricate connection and interdependence between our economies and well-being to the ocean,” said Ms. Gonzales. “Together with PEMSEA country partners, non- country partners and the PEMSEA Network of Local Governments, Learning Centres and Young Leaders, we will seize this opportunity to transform coastal and ocean governance and management to help build sustainable ocean economies in the region,” she added.
With the reappointment, Ms. Gonzales is expected to continue PEMSEA’s implementation of the Sustainable Development Strategy for the Seas of East Asia (SDS-SEA) 2018-2022 and EAS Futures plan which is premised on: (1) strengthening PEMSEA’s position as a regional coordinating mechanism that promotes integrated management solutions through partnerships; (2) facilitating science-policy-local action interface on coastal and ocean governance at the regional, national and local level and; (3) securing diverse and sustainable funding streams for PEMSEA’s programs and projects in the East Asian Seas region.
PEMSEA is also expecting new projects to be implemented in the 4th quarter of 2020 and in 2021 as part of operationalizing the organization’s sustainability plan.
