Petron Corporation becomes EAS Congress 2012 Sponsor

 

Quezon City, Philippines — Petron Corporation has become one of the sponsors of the East Asian Seas Congress 2012 that will be held from July 9 to 13 in Changwon City, RO Korea.

 

Petron Corporation is the largest oil refining and marketing company in the Philippines which supplies nearly 40 percent of the country’s oil requirements. The corporation operates an ISO 14001-certified refinery in Limay, Bataan with a rated capacity of 180,000 barrels a day. From the refinery, it transports their products by sea to 32 depots and terminals located all over the archipelago.

 

The corporation’s Petron Foundation has been a partner of PEMSEA in the implementation of the ICM Parallel site in Bataan Province, Philippines. Petron Foundation has promoted and used integrated coastal management (ICM) as a framework in the development of their environmental CSR. The foundation has participated in the previous Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Forum of the EAS Congress 2009. Petron Foundation Executive Director and President of Bataan Coastal Care Foundation Ms. Marilou G. Erni presented the CSR initiatives undertaken through the development of the Bataan Integrated Coastal Management Program (BICMP).

 

Accomplishments of this program include annual coastal cleanups, solid waste management programs, establishment of sewage treatment facilities, support to livelihood programs, development and implementation of the Bataan Sustainable Development Strategy and the formulation and enforcement of the Coastal Land and Sea Use Zoning Plan of the Province.

 

The Petron Foundation will also be participating again in the CSR workshop of the EAS 2012 Congress as a presenter on their initiatives towards the sustainability for the seas of East Asia.

 

Its support of the development and implementation of the Bataan ICM program has been recently honored in various events. The Foundation received two Gold Awards in Best Environmental Excellence and CSR Leadership during the Global CSR Summit 2011. It was recognized with the Integral CSR Award in the Management Association of the Philippines (MAP)’s CSR Leadership Challenge 2011.

 

Aside from its accomplishments in environmental sustainability, the Petron Corporation has been awarded the “2008 Employer of the Year” by the People Management Association of the Philippines (PMAP) and was named as one of the “Best Governed Publicly-listed Company in the Philippines” by the Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD).
