Tangerang Initiative on Strengthening Coastal Resilience Through Inclusive and Sustainable Integrated Coastal Management
Friday, 11 November 2022
The PNLG Annual Forum 2022 saw the adoption of a new joint vision, the Tangerang Initiative. This was presented by Vice President of the PNLG, His Excellency Ahmed Zaki Iskandar, who invited all members to adopt the initiative.
The initiative is a vision for local government action in support of the Sustainable Development Strategy for the Seas of East Asia (SDS-SEA), and the upcoming 2023-2027 SDS-SEA Implementation Plan. Through it PNLG members pledge to support the use of Integrated Coastal Management as an effective framework and systematic approach for sustainable development in coastal and marine areas.
It also positions the PNLG as a platform for information exchange and knowledge sharing, and a place where best practices and lessons learnt on sustainable development in coastal and marine areas can be effectively showcased at an international level. In pushing for the further development of the PNLG network, it also calls for complementary networking elsewhere to build sustainable and local blue economies, including with other PEMSEA networks, and between public and private sector stakeholders.
