Seoul, Republic of Korea – The Republic of Korea continues to shape future climate and ocean leaders as the Korean National Ocean Science Museum (KOSM) commits to host a regional youth forum in East Asia tackling the ocean and climate nexus.

Partnerships in Environment Management for the Seas of East Asia (PEMSEA) signed an agreement with KOSM last November 2, 2023 during the GEO Blue Planet 6th Symposium in Seoul, Korea. One of the key highlights of the agreement is the regional youth forum related to marine sciences and technology, climate change adaptation, marine litter, or marine protected areas as part of the East Asian Seas Congress 2024.

“We offer education programs and capacity building for youths including lectures and workshop, which aim to inform students and potential researchers about marine science, particularly the domains of marine ecosystem conservation and marine debris upcycling,” said Seo Jang Woo, President of KOSM.

Established in 2020, KOSM has continuously elevated its stature and capabilities in marine science education and exhibitions.  With innovative exhibitions and diverse educational programs, the science museum is fervently promoting marine conservation based on science. Building robust partnerships with institutions at the national and regional levels, KOSM is the only institution in Korea that offers education, exhibitions, and experiences in marine science, to share the value of ocean with people.

The KOSM and PEMSEA partnership aims to share knowledge and drive more impactful initiatives for the youth sector on climate change adaptation and marine conservation in the East Asian Seas region.
