During the Partners Night of the 117th founding anniversary of the Cavite State University (CvSU), one of the members of the PEMSEA Network of Learning Centers (PNLC), PEMSEA was awarded a certificate of recognition for their work on integrated coastal management (ICM). Other awardees included the Cavite PGENRO, as well as local government and business partners of CvSU.

PEMSEA and CVSU have been partners since 2015 in implementing ICM. Recent partnership has included the implementation of the ASEANO project. This project strengthened knowledge, capacity, and awareness regarding plastic pollution, with one of its focus sites being the Imus River in Cavite. Its technical reports have been turned over to the Cavite Government.

The Imus (in yellow) and Ylang-Ylang river (in orange) watersheds are one of the river systems in Cavite flowing into Manila Bay.

PEMSEA and CvSU continue to actively collaborate. The current focus of activity is the implementation of the UNDP/GEF/ASEAN/PEMSEA Reducing Marine Pollution and Protecting Environmental Flows in the EAS region, through integrated river basin management in ASEAN Countries. The Imus Ylang Ylang river is one of the pilot sites of this project. Collaboration between different stakeholders is crucial for effective coastal management, and we are glad to have found continuing success through our partnership with CVSU.
