Tools and Instruments for Implementation of Sustainable Development Strategy for the Seas of East Asia

The UNDP/GEF Scaling up Implementation of Sustainable Development Strategy for the Seas of East Asia (SDS-SEA) Project (Scaling up SDS-SEA Implementation Project) is at its inception phase after signing the Project Document by UNDP Philippines, PEMSEA and participating countries. In collaboration with PEMSEA Network of Local Government for the Sustainable Coastal Development (PNLG), PEMSEA Resource Facility is organizing a regional technical workshop involving PEMSEA Centers of Excellence, ICM Learning Centers, universities and scientific and technical institutions and representatives of PNLG members/local governments that will be scaling up ICM programs at priority ICM sites.The objective of the workshop is to explore the availability, applicability and accessibility of scientific tools, instruments and methodologies for achieving the expected outputs of the GEF/UNDP/PEMSEA project at priority ICM sites in the participating countries of Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Philippines, Timor Leste, Thailand and Vietnam. The expected outcomes of the workshop are:
Improved understanding of the strategy, approaches and targets of the GEF/UNDP/PEMSEA project;
Recognition of applicable tools, instruments and methodologies that are available and accessible, to meet the needs of local governments/priority ICM sites, as well as any gaps and constraints; and
Consensus on the ways and means of effectively engaging PEMSEA's RCoEs and ICM LCs, as well as other interested universities and scientific and technical institutions, in the implementation of the GEF/UNDP/PEMSEA project.
The workshop will be held in Xiamen, PR China, from November 10 to 11, 2014.
