On October 25, 2016, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) launched a special publication entitled "Voices of Impact: Speaking for the Global Commons” to commemorate the 25th anniversary of their partnership with the Global Environment Facility (GEF). This publication celebrates success stories from UNDP-GEF’s efforts to protect the environment and improve people’s lives. The stories illustrate positive transformations for local communities, large institutions and the entire planet.

PEMSEA is proud to be a featured success story on the value of strong partnerships in the management of coasts and oceans. The feature looks back on how PEMSEA started as a two-person project focused on pollution prevention. With continued support from UNDP-GEF, PEMSEA has grown into an international organization, taking a leading role on Integrated Coastal Management (ICM) and blue economy investment. It now serves as the regional coordinating mechanism for the Sustainable Development Strategy of the Seas of East Asia (SDS-SEA) and provides strong capacity-building programs and knowledge-sharing tools for its local and national partners. The report features some of PEMSEA’s achievements over the years, including  the signing of numerous codes and agreements on coastal and marine protection and deeper engagement with the youth of the region through a small grants program.
