Petron Foundation Marks 15th Year by Forging Strategic Partnerships

Makati City, Philippines — Petron Foundation Inc. (PFI) recently celebrated 15 years of fueling hope and helping realize the dreams of thousands of Filipinos by forging strategic alliances with the Department of Education (DepEd) and Habitat for Humanity Philippines, Inc. (HHPI). Over the past decade and a half, PFI has been at the forefront of Petron Corporation's efforts to provide sustainable solutions to some of the country's concerns. These include programs in education, environment, entrepreneurship, health, and livelihood.

"Petron's leadership goes beyond ensuring our market share or the introduction of premium products. Leadership to us also means fulfilling a simple promise to each stakeholder, a promise that we will care for the community and the environment," Petron Chairman and CEO Ramon S. Ang said. "True to this pledge, we have taken a leading role in several CSR and sustainability initiatives to mark Petron Foundation's 15th year as we aim to play an even bigger part in nation-building."

Petron Foundation signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the DepEd under the agency's Adopt-A-School Program. The agreement, in which PFI committed PhP 120 million for 2011-2012, includes PFI's banner educational scholarship program Tulong Aral ng Petron, construction of Petron Schools, reading programs, skills training for teachers, and entrepreneurship for the youth. Recently, Petron joined DepEd's Bayanihan Pampaaralan program to build Petron Schools in some parts of Visayas and Mindanao — areas that have an acute classroom shortage.

Petron also renewed its partnership with HHPI by committing PhP 10 million over the next four years to build decent homes in poor communities. Since 1988, Habitat has built nearly 33,000 houses and has helped develop communities across the country.

"We are very excited and look forward to our partnership with the Department of Education and Habitat for Humanity. We are grateful for their trust and confidence which allows us to expand our reach to benefit more of our countrymen," Mr. Ang added.

Petron Foundation also turned over PhP 5 million to DSWD for relief operations. The funds were raised by Petron employees, Petron Corporation, and San Miguel Foundation.

Petron also recognized its other partners such as programmes for the environment, of which PEMSEA was included for its partnership in the Bataan ICM site.
