Bali, Indonesia

The scenic island of Bali, Indonesia is one of the world's leading tourist destinations. Its scenic spots, diverse marine habitats, unique species, friendly people and guarded traditions never cease to captivate its visitors. The spectacular growth of tourism and light industries has resulted in degradation of some coastal resources particularly in the Southeast region. If the pace of economic development and increase in human population are not properly managed, these may adversely affect Bali's special cultural and ecological amenities. Balinese stakeholders, therefore, aspire for an integrated management of Southeast Bali's coastal and marine areas to improve the people's welfare and protect the environment based on the principle of Tri Hita Karana. Adoption of such principle of balance among human, nature and God truly makes Bali and unique ICM site.
