Quezon City, Philippines — Between today and 30 April, users can visit the online gallery and vote for the Online Favorite of the East Asian Seas Regional Photo Contest.The voting site features over five hundred images submitted by photo enthusiasts, hobbyists/amateurs and professionals from 12 countries in the region. The entries demonstrate local actions/implementation and good practices in sustainable coastal and ocean protection, development and management.Beyond its value as an opportunity to document coastal and marine environment actions, the photo contest also presents an avenue for showcasing community spirit. The photo contest's theme, "The Coast, The Ocean, My Community," emphasized the importance of turning knowledge and concern about the coastal and marine environment into actions.Online visitors play a key role in choosing the Online Favorite special award. The grand prizewinners, on the other hand, will be chosen through two rounds of evaluation. An initial screening will be conducted to choose the top 3 entries from each of the 12 countries. The country entries will then move on to the final round of evaluation on 8 May where a panel of judges will select the three grand prizewinners.The winners (one from each category: Youth, Hobbyist and Professional) will have the opportunity to attend the East Asian Seas Congress 2009 to be held on 23-27 November 2009 in Manila, Philippines. Prizes include an expense-paid trip to Manila (airfare and accommodations) and a printer from HP Philippines. Winning entries will also be featured in the EAS Congress 2009 exhibition, the Tropical Coasts Magazine and the 2010 PEMSEA calendar.
