Dr. Chua Thia-Eng Library Opens Its Wealth of Knowledge to the Public

Quezon City, Philippines — For 20 years of championing integrated coastal management (ICM) in the East Asian Seas, PEMSEA has been able to build a rich repository of knowledge related to the environmental management and sustainable development of watershed, coastal and marine ecosystems through the Dr. Chua Thia-Eng Library.
Housing more than 21,000 print and electronic materials, the Dr. Chua Thia-Eng Library now boasts of many recent improvements: resource materials have been reclassified for better organization, existing catalogs were checked and updated for consistency and integrity, and obsolete and out-of-scope materials were retired to guarantee relevance of the collection and create space for new print and online publications.
As a further step toward innovation, the SciNet Integrated Library Management System (SILMS), an online library catalog service acquired from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) of the Philippines and used to manage the daily operations of the Library, has been redesigned for a livelier look and structurally enhanced for more effective and efficient search and retrieval of resource materials. The SILMS makes it possible for the public to easily search through the Library’s collection titles on the Internet.
The Library provides relevant literature to technical staff as well as researchers and students, as well as current awareness services and information sharing of new researches, policies or documents relevant to PEMSEA.
Last April 2013, the PEMSEA library was dedicated to Dr. Chua Thia-Eng, former PEMSEA Executive Director and former Chair of the East Asian Seas Partnership Council, in recognition of his vision and leadership in forging progressive partnerships for promoting and implementing ICM in the region.
You can visit the Dr. Chua Thia-Eng Library during office hours at the PEMSEA Building inside the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Compound in Quezon City, Philippines (refer to map), or visit its website and library catalog at http://library.pemsea.org/union/ or http://silms.pemsea.loc/union/ (internal).
