The main objectives of the workshop are: i) to have a view of the state the art in the different aspects involved in the design of adaptation strategies to climate change, ii) to share experiences from the Latin American region and iii) to build up the basis for a research network on the role of ecosystem services for adaptation to climate change. The workshop is organized in different lectures plus general seminars by invited speakers, and it will set grounds for a book publication focused on Latin America.
The workshop topics are organized in 6 areas that will be linked together into the framework of developing adaptation strategies for climate change. Each topic will have lectures on theoretical aspects as well as case studies from the region. We hope that this combination will frame activities in the Latin American region within the latest approaches and research of each field.
Workshop topics:
- Introduction to adaptation and the role of ecosystem services
- Climate change and ecosystem functions
- Climate change adaptation policies
- Financial mechanisms in climate change adaptation
- Public and private initiatives on ecosystem services management in adaptation to climate change
- Communication strategies in adaptation to climate change
The workshop is primarily intended for researchers, but it is also intended for people working outside academic institutions willing to acquire knowledge useful for implementing practical management of ecosystem services for adaptation to climate change.
The workshop welcomes poster presentations. Registered participants will have the opportunity to present their research work in the form of a poster. Authors are requested to submit an abstract (maximum 500 words). Submissions should be sent by e-mail to poster@siaase.info until August 15th 2008.
