Last modified February 16, 2010

The World Small-Scale Fisheries Congress (WSFC), which will be held on October 18-22, 2010 in Bangkok, Thailand, is announcing a call for papers.

The WSFC is a scientific meeting that aims to address issues concerning small-scale fisheries around the world. Researchers, practitioners, policy makers, fishers, industries and other interested persons are invited to participate at the conference to discuss key issues and offer local and global solutions.

Those interested are invited to submit an abstract (250 words max.) by visiting the conference website and completing an on-line form. The deadline for abstract submission is March 31.

In addition to the conference proceedings, the organizers also plan to publish a selected number of conference papers as special issues in peer-reviewed journals. Information about this will be available at a later date.

Conference themes include:

  1. Ecosystem complexity, dynamics and interactions
  2. Gear conflict, resource/space competition and rule compliance
  3. Access, rights and responsibility
  4. Poverty, marginalization, vulnerability and value
  5. Livelihoods, wellbeing and integration
  6. Post-harvest processes and globalizing markets
  7. Governance challenges

Notifications for accepted abstracts will be sent out on April 30, 2010. Extended abstracts will then be required by July 15, 2010 for inclusion in the conference proceedings.

Additional information, including detailed conference themes and format, registration and fee schedule, general program and important dates, is available on the website: www.seafdec.or.th/wsfc2010.
